Research Symposium Theme: "Benefits of Ecosystems to Humans in the 21st Century"
This Symposium and Briefing will be held in Washington DC on October 19th (Wednesday), 2011. The Symposium is open to all AERC institution members and visitors, and will be held in the National Museum of the American Indian beginning at 12:00 P.M. (lunch will be provided).The following day, Oct 20th, the AERC will hold its Annual Business Meeting from 9:00 - 12:00 at the Smithsonian's Ripley Center, just off the National Mall. Please note that these days (Wednesday and Thursday) are different than the normal days we hold our meeting (Thursday and Friday) because of venue conflicts this year.
The Symposium (as well as the Congressional Briefing) this year will focus on the benefits that ecosystems provide society. Sometimes referred to as "ecosystem services", the Symposium (and Briefing) will focus on the importance of healthy forests, the role that ecosystems play in reducing nutrient enrichment in aquatic ecosystems, and the importance of healthy ecosystems to our fisheries resources.
